About Alanna

Image, photo, portrait – How do you capture the essence of a person through a camera lens? Alanna Jankov has dedicated herself to this task for the last 20 years.  While photography is her passion it's her unique ability to make everyone comfortable and her genuine interest in people that allow her to see the true individual personality in her subjects.

Alanna grew up in Caribou Island, Nova Scotia. She received her first camera at the age of eight and has been taking photographs ever since. Alanna’s rural upbringing was key in the development of her keen interest in society, people and the dynamic relationship between the two.

Alanna moved to Prince Edward Island in 1988 to pursue photography. Following her graduation from the Holland College Photography program, she apprenticed in all aspects of photography before establishing her own studio. Alanna is a well-known photographer in Prince Edward Island with a reputation for her photojournalistic style and willingness to portray controversial subject matter.

Alanna is active in the community, including volunteering with such groups as Heart and Stroke, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Kidney Foundation and Children’s Wish . In 2009, Alanna was awarded with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Holland College.  This award recognizes college graduates who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field.
